Small Group Descriptions

If You Want to Walk on Water, You’ve Got to get out of the boat

Far too many of us have put our faith in a casual Christianity that never compels us to leave our comfort zones. But, deep within our hearts we know that Christ has not called us to comfort, but to an exciting, sacrificial and overwhelmingly fulfilling faith. In If You're Going to Walk on Water John Ortberg teaches us how to step out of the "boat" of casual Christianity so that we can faithfully follow the Lord who is calling us out onto the risky, exciting waters of the high seas. Let Pastor Ortberg teach you how to leave your comfort zone for a remarkable life of faith.

Daniel

Explore Beth Moore's newest study, the Book of Daniel! Divided into 2 parts, the 1st portion (Daniel 1-6), emphasized by Lives of Integrity, deals with the life of the prophet and is extremely contemporary. Daniel faced pressures and temptations similar to those of a Christian in today's world. He teaches and models for us how to develop enduring integrity in an enticing world. The 2nd half (Daniel 7-12), turns to explore the prophecies of Daniel. It deals in-depth with the historical details, predictions, and fulfillments detailing history from the time of Daniel, through the inter-biblical period, the time of Christ, and on to the second coming of Christ.

Exodus: Journey Toward God

Life as a Christian is a journey-a journey toward God. But how do you set your compass? How do you make sure that God is guiding your steps and that your are not being blown willy-nilly by life's winds of circumstances? Turn to the book of Exodus and discover guidance for your pilgrimage. You will grow to know God in deeper, more personal ways. You will learn to trust Him more than ever before. You will discover who your fellow travelers are. And you will learn how to chart your course by the compass of God's will as you take the trip of your life.

I Peter: Stand Strong

The floodwaters of life are rising; the current races faster. You feel yourself slipping. You need a secure foothold... and you need it now! We have all experienced the heartpounding feeling of losing our stability in the storms of life. We want to stand strong as followers of Christ, but the world presses against us with staggering force. Where can we find an unshakable foundation for life? In the book of 1 Peter, you and your small group will find a rock-solid basis for living in a precarious and uncertain world. God offers you hope, love, purpose, service, submission, and victory. You can stand strong against the flood as you anchor yourself to the bedrock of Jesus Christ.

Twelve Ordinary Men

Obedience to God causes ordinary people to do extraordinary things. That was the premise of John MacArthur's popular book Twelve Ordinary Men, in which he looked at the lives of Jesus' disciples. He showed how their availability and obedience enabled them to turn their world upside down. More importantly, he showed how the same could be true of you as well. John MacArthur has developed a practical workbook to enable you to foster obedience and availability to God in your own life.

Romans: - LifeChange Bible Study

Sin, salvation, grace, death, and resurrection are life changing truths addressed in the study. Participants will gain a firm foundation of Romans through study and discussion, be able to apply relevant scripture to their lives, and build personal study skills.

The Power of a Praying Parent

Stormie Omartian shares from personal experience as to how parents can pray for their children's safety, character, adolescence, peer pressure, school experiences, friends, and relationship with God. Now adults, Stormie's grown-up children also reflect on the way their praying parents raised them---and what a difference it made.

God’s Masterwork-volume 1 – Genesis through 2 Chronicles

Redeemer. Deliverer. Lamb of God. These names reveal the Savior, who is foretold early in Genesis and whose coming is pictured from the beginning of Israel’s glory days. Join us for this panoramic look at Israel’s grand history, which clearly introduces us to His story. This helpful overview of the entire Bible lays a foundation for a lifetime of personal bible study and application.

What is Focus on the Family's The Truth Project®?

In a recent study, the Barna Research Group revealed a stunning statistic that continues to reverberate throughout the evangelical world. Only 9 percent of professing Christians have a biblical worldview.

Because of this, today's believers live very similarly to non-believers. A personal sense of significance is rarely experienced, we spend our money and time on things that fail to satisfy and we begin to wonder what life's ultimate purpose really is. We are, in short, losing our bearings as a people and a nation.

To counter this slide within the body of Christ, we are launching one of the most ambitious and powerful projects in the history of our ministry—Focus on the Family's The Truth Project.

The Truth Project is a DVD-based small group curriculum comprised of 12 one-hour lessons taught by Dr. Del Tackett. This home study is the starting point for looking at life from a biblical perspective. Each lesson discusses in great detail the relevance and importance of living the Christian worldview in daily life. For more info go to

Old Testament Characters

Abraham gives us an unforgettable portrait of faith. Daniel is a classic example of holiness. And through her willingness to risk her own life, Esther shows us what commitment means. This LifeGuide explores the lives of these and other Bible characters. Their example helps us live in the present by learning from people of the past.

Romans: Get what you don’t deserve.

We all sin, so we must pay for our crimes. But then something happens: God intervenes. He not only saves us from certain death but also makes it possible for us to live with eternal purpose. In this verse-by-verse study of the important book of Romans, learn how you can be transformed from a sinner on course to getting what you deserve to the saint who reflects Christ’s very essence in your everyday life.

Having a Mary Heart in a Martha World

The life of a woman today isn't really all that different from that of Mary and Martha in the New Testament. Like Mary, you long to sit at the Lord's feet...but the daily demands of a busy world just won't leave you alone. Like Martha, you love Jesus and really want to serve him...yet you struggle with weariness, resentment, and feelings of inadequacy.

Then comes Jesus, right into the midst of your busy Mary/Martha life---and he extends the same invitation he issued long ago to the two sisters of Bethany. Tenderly he invites you to choose "the better part"---a joyful life of "living-room" intimacy with him that flows naturally into "kitchen service" for him.

How can you make that choice? Weaver shows how all of us---Marys and Marthas alike---can draw closer to our Lord, deepening our devotion, strengthening our service, and doing both with less stress and greater joy.

Remarkable Women of the Bible

In this inspiring look at the lives of women in the Bible, bestselling author Elizabeth George reveals refreshing models of faith for today. Stories about Eve, Deborah, Sarah, Ruth, Mary, and other women from Scripture offer testimonies of changed lives and reflections on the remarkable strengths God cultivates in women who love Him. Conveying the assurance of God's love, The Remarkable Women of the Bible provides nourishment from a woman's point of view and connects today's woman with the source of fulfillment that sustained her sisters in Bible times---a relationship with God.

Ephesians: - Wholeness for a Broken World

Broken marriages, shattered friendships, racial divisions, war between nations-we live in a fractured world. How can the pieces be put back together? In Ephesians Paul lifts the veil from the future to allow us to see God's plan to unite everyone and everything in Christ. Studying this book will renew your hope.

The Strong-Willed Wife

In today's world, the Bible's design for marriage is under constant attack.

It seems that women receive two very different messages: The church teaches submission to all God-given authority, while our culture encourages independence from anyone or anything. And while the idea of submission is tough for any woman to accept, it can be even more difficult for those with strong personalities. All of this can leave many wondering if submission in marriage is even relevant to today's woman.

Author Debbie L. Cherry believes that authority is still essential to a healthy, vibrant marriage. Join Debbie as she takes an honest look at one of the Bible's most misunderstood teachings. By tackling the common concerns and misconceptions that distort the truth, Dr. Cherry presents the scriptural concept of authority and how it's designed to be a vital part of a loving, secure relationship.

Ruth/Esther - Girl Power.

Need a role model? Here are two strong candidates. Instead of cowering in fear or simply doing what everyone else would have done, Ruth and Esther made history. By trusting God when it mattered most, these two young women changed the world: Ruth’s descendants became kings, and Esther saved her people from genocide. What great things doe God have in store for you?

Beloved Disciple: The Life and Ministry of John

John referred to himself as "the disciple whom Jesus loved." Just as Christ took John on a lifelong journey into the depths of His love, He will do the same for you. The Bridegroom's love is unmatched and inexhaustible, and He is waiting to lavish it on you, His beloved. This 11 week interactive study includes personal, daily, assignments and weekly, video centered group sessions

I John: Love Each Other

When God pours out his live, our parched lives are revived. and our thirsty souls are satisfied. What is the secret of God's love and of giving it freely to others? The book of 1 John calls us back to the basics of loving God and one another. This study of 1 John will help you experience the refreshing rain of God's love in ways you have always wanted.

Dangerous Surrender

Are you ready to exchange your agenda for God's? Kay Warren shares moving stories from around the globe that put faces on the needs of others---AIDS outcasts in Africa, orphans in Malawi, HIV patients in America. You'll be challenged to repent of your apathy, look differently at the world's suffering, and do something about it!

Finding Peace

Chronic anxiety taints every corner of 21st century life. Terrorist threats, a shaky economy, growing unemployment, and individual crises create fertile ground for obsessive worrying and fear of the future. But you don't have to suffer anxiety's relentless grasp. You can be free from fear. Dr. Charles Stanley shows the way to life-changing peace of mind. You can gain real peace, Dr. Stanley confirms; but only from one source---God. Your tranquility can be more than just a wish; it can become a habit. Finding Peace offers you the tools for resolving past failures and regrets, for facing present concerns, and for soothing apprehensions about the future. Insightful and compassionate, Dr. Stanley has crafted an essential message for all who wrestle with daily turmoil in an uncertain world.

Praying for Children and Schools

Igniting a Passion to Pray is a six-week study for women who desire a more effective prayer life. The workbook will help you follow along as the leader teaches Igniting a Passion to Pray.

NOOMA: ROB BELL VIDEOS

NOOMA is the new format for getting Christian perspectives. Its short films with communicators that really speak to us. Each NOOMA touches on issues that we care about, that we want to talk about, and it comes in a way that fits our world.

Mark

God has arrived. In this, the earliest of the four Gospels, Mark vigorously defends the claim that Jesus was the true Messiah. Only, Mark explains, most people rejected Him because He didn't arrive as the glorious warrior-king they expected but rather as a suffering servant. The intensity of Mark's straightforward writing and his enthusiasm for Christ's gospel bring us a powerful message of salvation, inspiration, and encouragement. God's Word slices away layers of pretense from our lives to show us how we can be more like Christ. This in-depth book study will help you understand the context and meaning of the Bible so you can apply it in your life.

What’s so Amazing about Grace?

It’s one thing to talk about grace; it’s another to taste its power. Through candid video interviews, Philip Yancey integrates true-life face and experiences that will rock your preconceptions, get you thinking and talking, and help you discover why grace is more amazing than you’ve ever dreamed.

Listening to God

God is not a speechless God. He speaks to you so that you can hear His message, receive it, and understand what He wants you to do. When you realize that He can communicate with you personally, directly and explicitly, listening to God becomes vitally important. Unfortunately, most of us don’t know how to listen to God.

Charles Stanley believes that no spiritual discipline is more influential and essential than listening to God. In this study, he identifies the ways in which God gets attention and speaks, how to differentiate between God’s voice and Satan’s voice, how to actively listen to God and how to sit in God’s presence.

Revelation

In every age people have felt sure that the book of Revelation described events in their time. As nations arm themselves for war, we think of Armageddon. As evil rulers grow in power, we look for the antichrist. As the powers of darkness threaten to overwhelm us, we cry, "Come, Lord Jesus!" Amid the uncertainties of our age, Revelation assures us of the triumph of God.

The Life of Paul

Paul's life was never dull. First appearing in the New Testament as a violent enemy of Christ, Paul later went on to not only put his faith in the risen Lord but to pen thirteen letters of the New Testament--in the midst of being beaten, shipwrecked, snake bitten, imprisoned, and chased out of town. Let Charles Swindoll be your guide as you travel down the road to Damascus with Paul and discover the passion for Jesus that drove this hero of the faith.
