QUESTIONS

About God
Romans 15 tells us: “Accept one another, then, just as Crist accepted you, in order to bring praise to God.” We are told to accept everyone, no matter the circumstance. What does this say about God’s character? What kind of Father is He? How does Ruby’s father mirror God’s character in the movie “CODA?”

About Me
Jesus led with a servant's attitude. He did not come to be served, but to serve. Similarly, Ruby served her deaf family as an interpreter for all of her young life. In turn, her family selflessley sacrificed their need for Ruby so that she could follow her singing dreams. Where in life have you experienced someone else's sacrifice for you? How did it change you and your direction in life?

Community
Romans 15:2 says “Each of us should please our neighbors for their good, to build them up.” Who do you know in your day-to-day life that needs to be built up? How can you contribute an attitude of service to them this week?

Mission
1 Corinthians 13 tells us that love does not insist on its own way. Although deaf, Ruby’s parents learned to understand Ruby’s passion for singing by seeing the impact her voice had on others when she performed. Once they understood her, they decided to sacrifice their own need for her so that she could pursue her singing career. Is there a relationship that comes to mind where you have been self-seeking? Or selfish? Or lacking in understanding of the other party? How can you move toward understanding and healing in that relationship?

Action
Set aside some time each day this week to pray and ask God to reveal to you who and how you can surrender your own way so that you may be of service to others.

Lord, we thank You that through Your son, Jesus, You have taught us that love is not self seeking; that it is patient, kind and requires sacrifice. We ask that You put relationships on our hearts that need healing.. Guide us as we listen and try to understand those that we haven’t put forth the effort to listen to and understand. Amen.
