QUESTIONS
About God
Read 1 John 3:1a
What does this tell you about your relationship with God?
Take a minute and let the Holy Spirit bring to mind some places in your life where God would say "well done"... name those out loud.
About Me
What are some areas in your life where you are prone to compare yourself with others? How does that usually go (do you make yourself better or worse than others in your own mind?)
What spaces make you feel the most comfortable and free from comparison?
Community
In our passage from 2 Corinthians, the church is struggling with unhealthy comparisons and Paul encourages them to each compare themselves to what the Lord thinks. There is a place for both healthy accountability and humility. How do you engage with the people you are closest to? Would they say you pull each other down through comparison or build one another up?
Read Romans 14:10-12. How can you better live this out in your community?
Mission
Who in your life might need some encouragement because they deal with the weight of unhealthy comparison? How might you express to them their value in a big or small way?
Action
Name one area where you can drop the comparison with others and one person you can encourage.
Holy God, help us to remember that you are the one we live for and that in the end you alone will say what is good and what is not good. Tune our ears to your voice so that we can receive your love as your welcome us into your family and fill us with your Holy Spirit so that we can live holy lives. We let go of the voices in the world that contradict yours and we look to Jesus, the one who leads us home. That you for loving us, father. Amen.
