The Speed of God
We can go against the grain of culture and get back into sync with God’s design.
Genesis 1:31-2:3 Isaiah 40:28 Mark 2:27
What does it personally mean to you that God rested on the seventh day of creation, though he never grows tired or weary (Is. 40:28)? Also, that Jesus said the Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath (Mk. 2:27)?
If God intended to give you the Sabbath as a blessing, how might it make a difference if you practiced it regularly? In which areas might the Sabbath give you new life and strength?
In which community places do you see both the burnout of overabundance and the burnout of self-creation? Is what ways might practicing Sabbath in your life be a benefit to your community?
In which ways could you put the three elements of Sabbath - stop, delight, and worship - into play this week?
Which one step will you take this week to go against the grain of culture and reconnect with the blessing of Sabbath rest?
Father God, we praise you for blessing us with the Sabbath. You give it to us as a gift to strengthen and renew us. We confess we have not always valued the Sabbath, much less practiced it with intention. But we want to make a new start. Show us practical ways to slow down, take delight in your creation, and worship you one day per week. May our relationship with you grow as we make Sabbath rest a regular rhythm. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
