What Does Love Require?
Sermon
What Does Love Require? / June 26, 2022
Main Idea/Summary
As followers of Jesus, we ask “What does love require of us?”
Scripture
Luke 1:15, Luke 1:39-45, Luke 10:25-37, Genesis 1:27, Matthew 19:14, John 12:25, Psalm 139:1-6
QUESTIONS
About God
Read the following scriptures: Jeremiah 1:5, Psalm 139:13-16, Matthew 19:14. Based on these scriptures and others you are familiar with, how does God feel about the unborn child and children in general? What is God’s heart toward the mother?
About Me
There has been lots of controversy regarding the recent Supreme Court decision on the sensitive topic of abortion. It can be difficult to show grace to those that we disagree with, but God calls us to show love and grace to everyone who crosses our paths. What spiritual practices can you engage in to help navigate your thoughts/feelings regarding this topic so that you can respond in love to others?
Community
It is easy to let our strong emotions surrounding issues cause us to behave in a way that does not align with who Jesus is. How have your own thoughts and views on this topic or others affected the way you have responded to others recently?
Mission
In relation to the topic of abortion and pro-life views, what does love require of us? Pastor Ron listed the following responses to that question: 1) to be a people of grace, 2) to support women in crisis, 3) to care for the unborn and 4) to have a consistent pro-life ethic “from womb to tomb.” How can you engage with those in your life differently based on these ideas?
Action
Pastor ron discussed how supporting women in crisis and having a consistent pro-life ethic are things that love requires of us, especially now. What are some tangible ways you can be a disciple of Jesus and help support women and children this week?
Father, help us to put our faith into action this week. May we be filled with Your love, grace and wisdom. May we show up as Your disciples and be a place of grace and love for those hurting and broken. Amen.
